2/10/07 Crazy dream, washing diapers, coping with cold weather....

Dear Daddy.... if you buy me diapers you'll be sorry!

Steff got your card and the cash! She's touched that you always remember... and she got a card from the Lewandowskis this year too. That was sweet.

We had a lovely time in Madison. Steff's car is still in the shop, they don't have all the parts yet! Poor Steff. But we took her to a Japanese place. She said... "Do you want to walk? It's only four blocks away." FOUR BLOCKS in that frigid air sounded like ten miles! And I'd come straight from work... didn't have a warm sweater or good walking shoes... so NO, we DROVE! And the meal was fantastic. Jolan wasn't able to join us... but it was still nice.

Yesterday was also my appointment with my Assyrian women, mother and daughter.... they are such wonderful people. It continues to amaze me. The daughter had baked me a cake! The mother had made me a whole potful of dolmas! That's stuffed grape leaves incase you don't know. All that work! She grew the grape leaves in her yard and oh the fragrance... it was heavenly! They were DELICIOUS, the best I ever had! And she made me a huge bowl of tabouli to take with me, too.

I was so touched. Why they love me so I can't tell you. Such beautiful people. The mother tells me all kinds of fascinating stories of her life in Europe... she's even lived in a castle! When she was making the tabouli she asked me to help and we had such a great time, there in the kitchen, chopping and slicing and squeezing lemons and tasting. It's another way of life... much more earthy and from the heart about all aspects of life.

Awwwwwww... you might have had a touch of the flu! Glad you're better! And here you were blaming my lovely furry collar on my beautiful coat!

I'm off to tai chi this morning.... and I love it. Stay warm and enjoy your day! Since you don't have heated seats in your car... I thought of another solution to keep your butt nice and warm! Diapers! Ha ha ha ha ha... hey, try it!
Love, Dottie

dear Dottie when is this weather going to warm up , it was zero this morning , of course I go out and start up the car , clean the windows and then Bob comes out for his ride to work , something is wrong with this picture ha ha , Non of this snow has even melted , Can you imagine what those people in New York are going to have when it does start melting , Nine feet of snow wow .

Do you buy Diapers by size or by VOLUME , you should know ha ha ha ha .Remember when you were born we still had cloth Diapers and usually one or two would serve the purpose , by the time sandy arrived , the diapers were like cheese cloth , your mother would use five or six to do the job and then they came out with the disposal ones, to late , But the diapers would be put into a bucket of water And soaked till they were ready to wash , times have changed.

Glad you got together with Steff , Boy if she can walk Four Blocks her ankle must be healed , How was the traffic /By the way what happened to American Food huh , or is it all Imported like every thing else ha ha .

Boy those people must really think highly of you to treat you the way they do < count your blessings ,

Had this crazy dream last night , dreamt I had my car in the companies parking Lot and it was stollen, along with another Car , Finnally got a lift home and there was My Car in front of my house , My neighbor must of stole it and wasn't aware that it was my Car , Now how do I treat my Neighbors ha ha , weird and funny .Anyway stay warm in this weather , this is the first year that the weather made me want to stay inside , Getting Old Nah

Keep smiling love dad

2/9/07 Steff's birthday, Dad's under the weather... more diaper silliness...

Good morning, Daddy...

We'll be heading to Madison after work (about 2pm) today to take Stephanie out to dinner for her birthday. Jolan has to work this whole weekend! Steve is getting a sub for his last class of the day. We must miss rush hour. Rush hour in Schuamburg could add another hour and a half to the drive!

Monica called Stephanie and they talked an hour! Whew... that will be a big phone bill! I know they are close and miss each other. Monica's such a sweetie. Sounds like Steff was housebound on her birthday, because her car was being worked on. Poor kid... we'll make up for it tonight.

Daddy dear.... if your NOSE is running, it does NOT give you DIAPER RASH.... unless. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.... were you wearing a diaper on your face to catch all the drips from your nose?

Daddio... it's the perfect NOSE WARMER for you on days like these... a diaper!!! Ha ha ha... just secure it with one of your rubberbands!

That's cute that Mark cut in to talk a bit to you... in an instant message. I'm sure he's very attentive to his job, don't worry.

Today's my appointment with that wonder Assyrian mother and daughter... two houses, three rooms. They are the loveliest, warmest, sweetest people.... they treat me like a queen, like part of the family! They are making me lunch today! When the mother found out I love Mediterranean food she got all excited and offered to teach me anything and everything I want to know. It will be nice... and I hope they love my designs. I really tried to give them something very special. They live in Northbrook. I'll be putting on the miles today!

My installation at the Naperville penthouse went great yesterday. Her home is looking fabulous, it really is. And I've had a hand in every single new item of furniture, every new lamp and the rugs. I will be sad to see it come to an end... we are running out of rooms!

So have a good day, Daddio... find some diapers on sale, nose sized! Ha ha...
Love, Dottie

Dear Dottie Now I know what to get you for your Birthday , Diapers so when you go to Madison you don't have to stop Ha ha ha , Wonder what size , Extra large should do it Ha ha ha ha .

i forgot that Steff's birthday was yesterday, I di d send her a card, your kids are starting to age a little, time to start thinking what they want to do with their Lives ..........

Got my shopping done plus Chicken soup from Joanne , still hot , ha ha Sandy was really busy the lot was filled to capacity, good sign .

My sinus is a little better today , i must of been running a fever yesterday cause i just couldn't warm up , even wore a jacket inside the house , but the Bed Buddy did warm me up and islept well , feel a liitle better , no running nose .

So have a nice visit with Steff, wish her a happy Birthday for me < its a long Trip and it's Friday , don't forget to wear you know what , Keep Smiling Love dad

2/8/07 Still allergic, diaper talk, Mark IM's...

Dear Daddio... "full of the dickens"... hmmmmmmm, where do you think I learned that! YOU! I don't think you were allergic to my fake fur coat collar... come on, it's FAKE! I think when I rubbed it on your face it tickled you and that's why you sneezed. Silly Bruno.

As for the high kicks I can do... for some reason I could always lift my leg high. Maybe I was a male dog in a past life? Ha ha ha... tai chi has helped me make kicks higher and improved my balance!

The story of the astronaut wearing a diaper to drive 900 miles, just to discourage another woman from messing with her boyfriend... it's quite a story. But it's not as weird to me as Sandy thinks... astronauts are trained to wear diapers for space. They wear them for launches, landings, and space walks. It's very odd, I know, that the woman's mind went to that extreme. But I was more alarmed that she passed psychological screening (intensive screening!) and still plotted to get rid of that other woman. Something did not get caught by the psychological screening process... that's scary! What if she carried a nuke or bomb onto a rocket? I'm sure those astronauts don't have to go through metal detectors! Ha!

Next time Sandy drives to Springfield, remind her to wear her DIAPER on the road... ha ha ha...

I have an installation this morning.... that means more $$$ for me, woo hoo. Hope the job goes well! Thank you so much for the great lunch yesterday! Enjoyed every bite of it! That place is SO GOOD!

Have a great day!
Love, Dottie

Dear Dottie It's cold out there, minus 3 this morning , that old clunker didn't want to start the first time around, thats 11 days in a row that we have had below freezing weather , guess by the week end it should start warming up , don't fool with Mother nature ha ha ,

Don't know what happened when you left yesterday, my nose kept running and my eyesfelt funny all the way till i went to bed , now this morning i feel ok, Could it have been a Diaper rash Ha ha ha statement i meant ha ha .

Took Bob to work , told him carry money with you in case car won't start , But I have to wait a whole hour for the bus , Boy is he spoiled., ................

Mark just cut in on my typing , I can't type that fast to hold a conversation, and i think he is getting Paid for the time he spends with me ha ha So stay warm , hope you can make a few Bucks I want to see you smile

2/6/07 Allergic to my coat, written after our visit...

Dear Daddy....

Yes, we got at least three or four inches yesterday. It was a crazy day... my appointment canceled and I had all sorts of free time! I ran next door to ask my neighbor if she needed anything from Whole Foods. Turns out she'd been sick for a week and not able to get out. This is my "crazy" neighbor, but she's a nice person and means well. She was very grateful for the trip to the store. She gave me a list. I shoveled her sidewalk on my way out.

After Steve left for his night class in Deerfield (poor Steve!) I went out to shovel. A neighbor had come through with his snow blower and did the sidewalk. So sweet! I did the rest... it was light, mild, and neighbors home from work (mostly men) were outside talking, shoveling, laughing, shoveling..... it was more fun than work.

Yes, I love that picture with Flip... my sweet sweet bird! And how Flip loved YOU~!! You dipped corn flakes in milk and handed them to him every morning, such a special treat! Flip and Jo Krause... now THAT was the funniest.... reeeee eeee eeee eeee eeee circling around the room when he heard her voice, then landing in her hair, pulling on it! She's the only one he did that with. Birds are such characters.

You had one of these second floor clotheslines with the pulley? How cool. Why did you dry clothes in freezing weather? Was there anyplace inside to hang them.... basement maybe? Did your mom do other people's laundry? Was this when she had the boarders? I'm trying to picture it............

Chinese today with Sandy? If I catch up with work around here I might see if I could tag along! Too soon to tell...

So enjoy your day... such a pretty one, the day after a snow!
Love, Dottie

(His letter came AFTER I was able to join him and Sandy for lunch at Chi Tung. I had worn my winter coat with the fake fur collar and teased him with it by rubbing the collar on his cheek.)

Dear Dottie Your on your way home , still full of the dickens, Must be the food you ate because Sandy and I were OK ha ha , But it was nice that you drove all the way out here just to share time with US.

I really think i was alergic to that coat of yours , all of the sudden I got all congested, weird, maybe it was that cat's collar on the coat ha ha anyway it's better now .

How can Sandy keep going the way she does , after running around with you and then taking off to Ikea to shop some more. but i was gladto stay home and let the two of you have some fun together, she and you need a good laugh to break up the stress .

The Diaper story , well it will make many more miles before it is put to rest < a story on the go ha ha .Hope the traveling home is not to bad Should of washed your car windows before you left, never thought of it , so happy traveling , Keep smiling you High Kicker

2/6/07 Remembering the shed he built and washing clothes in the old days....

Dear Daddio... Funny isn't it? Sometimes you just get in those moods, where you do like to sit back and REMEMBER things. Hey, I better do it while I still have a brain cell that works!...............

Yes, we should do something with those old pictures you have, to keep them safe. I'm so upset by what happened to my albums! The pictures from our honeymoon are really bad.

Here are two that will make you chuckle... (or groan!)... ha ha ha, I will never forget that day!
Pfft.. who says these "kits" are EASY? In theory, sure... wood is all pre-measured, but nothing fits as well as wood cut on site. I remember our changing the foundation minutes before the cement truck pulled up! You were amazing, Dad... and that shed really held up well. I wonder if it's still there!

So your mother had to go shopping every day for food? That's how it is in London. No one has room for lots of food storage. They walk to the bakery and grocery in the neighborhood for what they need. Or they eat out! Monica said her new place of work has no lunch room or employee lounge or any kind, no refrigerator, no kitchen!

Did your mother have a garden in the back yard where she grew her own things? I remember Mary Jotkus' garden, it was fabulous... really vigorous and healthy. She had some kind of pot or crock sunk in the ground with something fermenting in there. Pickles? Sourkraut? Who knows! I also remember her beautiful flowers along the fence. Hollyhocks and much more. She had a pantry in her kitchen. Pantries are a great idea for storage. Hers had a window. Pantries were popular. You knocked ours on Rockwell out when you installed all those metal cabinets. Even Auntie Raine's little kitchen had a pantry. And she had those ruffled edges along all the shelves. Do you remember those? I never liked those ruffles, but I remember them in the store, all kinds, all colors, in packages. If I recall, they were put on with thumb tacks of a matching color.

Oh my.. see? It happened again! Remembering is fun, but yikes! Time to get to work! ...........

Have a great day... careful in that snow!
Love, Dottie

-----

Dear Dottie just got home from shopping , Bitter cold out and snowing , they say 1 to 3 inches by night fall , and it's slick , came to a corner and started to slide , WOW, slow down ha ha , Car has been acting up , don't stop on me now ha ha . .........
Got the garbage out early , looks like it's going to be another bad week but warmer This cold has just lasted to long , wait we gett the heating Bill Ha ha .
Boy you sure dug up some old memories with those pictures you sent , I like the one in your wedding gown, with Flip and that big Smile , you sure made a pretty Bride ha ha .
Our old yard was all Cinders , glass and what have you , but we did manage to grow stuff , Corn , tomatoes and such , , because we had two houses on one lot , the yard was not very big, but we did have two clothes lines ha ha , ist floor and second floor , nobody could compare with us , and when you hung stuff out in the winter you would bring it into the house stiff as a board ha ha , All was was done with the scrubbing Board and a ringer that i usually got the job of turning and be careful so you don't pop any Buttons ha ha .
That Pantry that i took out on Rockwell became our eating area until the family out grew it , that was a nice house , i could have stayed there the rest of my life , but it changed and for our on good we had to move, look what they are getting for those houses now , un believable.
Yes I remember the fun of trying to build that storage shed , but it all turned out , wish we still had the plans ha ha ,you have one just like it now in back of your house and at Woodsmoke.Anyway time to eat ..... , i want to see you Smile

2/5/07 Bears, childhood memories, family photos...

Dear Daddio....

Boo hoo, our Bears did not win. And we were all really rooting for them! But they sure gave us a great season, didn't they! I like what that coach stands for... treating the players with respect, never yelling, never swearing, staying focused on positive, constructive messages. Ah well, there's always next year?

How nice that you went to visit Mom at the cemetery. You had one of the coldest days for it! I realized that I don't have any pictures on the computer of Mom! So I asked Steve to bring in the box of old albums so I could find one and scan it! Some animal... mouse, raccoon, or other... had shredded and chewed the edges and spines off all the albums and made a nest! Plus, we had those "magnetic" photo albums (the same kind you have) and the photos were FUSED to the page, almost impossible to remove! Page after page, the same thing! I became alarmed and started taking all the photos out of the albums. Some came out with no trouble. Some really were badly stuck and some of the backing ripped off. These are our family photos!

Steve said "We shouldn't have kept these in the garage." I guess he's right... the temperature extremes and critters that get in there make it unsafe. I spent hours yesterday prying photo after photo OUT of the old albums, got maybe a third of them done. I put all the photos in large envelopes with the dates marked on them.

Anyway.... my efforts were rewarded, I found one of my favorite photos of you and Mom!
Scanned pictures are not as crisp as digital, they lose something in the scanning. But I do love this picture! You both look happy and relaxed, this was how Mom always looked to me.

Anyway, you have that shelf packed solid with photo albums. Are yours sticking like mine? I noticed some of the colors really have faded or yellowed, too. Maybe the photos should have been in an acid-free archival environment? We used to buy those photo albums from the dollar bin. Luckily, if I remember right, Mom used to cram as many photos on a page as possible, edges overlapping. That will help actually... the edges will lift up easier. It's the edges I found to be stuck the worst in my albums.

I enjoyed your memories of staying warm. Did each family member get a brick to heat up for bed warming? Did you use CURTAINS to insulate against the cold (with no storms)? How did your mother store things like potatoes and cabbage? I keep mine in the fridge! What did you drink at meals?

So Mike was the one who liked to start fights? Ha ha ha... I remember some fights with my siblings. I didn't hit or slap much, but could wrestle any of them to the ground and sit on them, victorious! I was the oldest and bigger than they were. Nice advantage. Kathy's best defense was a shrill, ear splitting SCREAM! Do you remember those? Yikes.... she'd clear a room. Kathy Whitcomb would say... "I heard Kathy screaming again today." Ha ha ha... I think they could hear her a mile away!

It was rough housing that led to my breaking Sue's foot that time though... that wasn't good, and I felt bad about that. Ha ha, I just remembered those STILTS that you made for me! I was really good on them until I fell and chipped my elbow bone and had to be in a sling for awhile. You took my stilts away!!! I remember someone had cans they put on their feet with strings they held to lift the can and walk. Pretty funny. Stilts were better!

What childhood games did you have? Kids today don't play with stones and cans and jacks and little balls and jump rope like we did.

Yikes... a long letter. Better stop before you fall asleep at the computer! Ha ha ha...
Have a great day... stay WARM with bed buddy on hand!
Love, Dottie
--------

Dear Dottie Arn't you full of questions today , what are you trying to do , re live your Child hood ha ha , minus 9 this morning , it hits you as you walk out the door , the old clunker started , grumbled a bit and took off , even the inside blowers and such made all kind of noises, see what it's like and that car is only 17 ha ha , not long for this world . ............
Ca,me home took Bob to work . he is still under the weather Hacking away , don't know if I will have to take him to the doctor later this afternoon , will see .
that Bear game was not the best weather for playing , they culdn't hold on to the ball , anyway one had to win and one had to lose and all is over now and we can get back to our daily lives and not have to read all thoes articles on the Bears , there is always Next year .
Yes I did take a lot of Picture over the years and some are fading a way, i must have about 40 albums , whats going to happen to them when i am gone , who knows but they should be preserved for the grand children, That was a nice picture of the two of us in our happier days , by the way I still have taht chair that your Mother is sitting on , S and H stamps ha ha
History , how did we store food , we ate what we bought , only had ice boxes, Curtains were washed and starched and streched on curtain frames to dry , as far as drinks , Milk with te cream on the top , Coffee, no Pop, water ., lemon ade. Anyway life was simple . no radio ,TV , people enjoyed each other's company and usally marry some one from right in there block and stayed married a life time ...........

Keep smiling Love Dad

2/4/07 Mom's 80th b-day, Super Bowl, childhood memories of winter...

Dear Daddio....

Mom would love having her birthday on Superbowl Sunday, don't you think ? She always loved a big, LOUD party! I miss Mom... but I know she's still with us. She'll be hootin' and hollerin' in her one-of-a-kind way today... I know it.................

Yes, I remember that "overnight stay" at the hospital. Wow, a year has passed already. It was a good decision... you're back to your ornery, active self now, managing quite well!

Do you snore? Mom did, if I recall.

So when you were a kid, and it was cold outside like this, how did you keep warm? How'd you dress? How'd you heat the house? What did your mother cook? I'm curious... I must know! Ha ha ha... Did you and your brothers ever fight? Wrestle on the floor, get in trouble in school? I think you've been in a few fights in your life, just a hunch... I remember you being all too willing to pick a fight with the kids across the street on Morrill's steps!

Glad you got Steff's address!

I got carried away writing... better let you go! Enjoy the game! Maybe order pizza and sit with Bob and celebrate!!! GO BEARS!!!!!
Love, Dottie

2/3/07 Last year in hospital, bed buddy, weird dream, mass card for Mom...

Dear Daddy.... you mean Sandy didn't wake you up at 1:00 AM to let you know she's home? Ha ha ha... that would have been a hoot! Well, at least she's back and you are released from bird duty for now.

Yes, I talked with her a bit last night online. She seemed really impressed by the people in Panama, such good people, such a beautiful outlook on life, so full of color and pattern in their dress. She bought some of their handmade Molas. Sounds like she's really watching her spending though. She does have a massive overhead these days.

I had ANOTHER weird dream. I was married to someone else, a very sweet, slightly short and round young Hispanic man with long straight hair and big brown eyes. We were in the car, he was driving and for some reason I was in the back seat. We were talking and then suddenly I saw his shoulders heaving. He was sobbing! He turned over his shoulder and looked at me with tears streaming down his face and said "I love you so much." What kind of monster was I that this poor sweet guy was reduced to such a state? I don't know what I said, but I wish I could tell him I was sorry! Dreams! And I have no idea who the guy is. But I was married to him!

Then I dreamed I had Yoda in the garage, and put her on a ladder while I went to get something from inside the house. I came back and she wasn't there! And the light had gone off! She was all alone in the cold dark garage! I put the light on and the garage was CLEAN! (Not like my real garage. Ha ha...) and I found Yoyo in the corner on the floor, my poor baby.

Dreams... who can figure them out?

Your squirrels are running around? They are looking for food! So, so hard to find it in this weather. .............

That's right, I remember you talking about some 78 rpm records being ruined by water. But the rest you can listen to and sing along as you clean your basement... :::hint, hint::::.... tee hee.......................

Stay warm, Dad, keep the bed buddy near by and snuggle under an afghan on your favorite chair and make some Z's....
Love, Dottie

Had to take Bob to work this morning, that wind cuts right through you , guess who goes out and warms up the Car <,,,, ME ha ha the old man .

You better watch what you eat and watch before you go to bed , you have some weird dreams Funny that you remember all the details ha ha ...... anyway enjoy your Saturday And don't forget the BEARS , WHO WILL WIN WE hOPE

2/2/07 Advice about NY trip, playing the organ, squirrel damage, Sandy home...

Dear Daddy....

So... I'm assuming that Sandy made it home safely last night? ..............

My friend, Leslie, wants to take me to New York for a weekend, for my birthday. (Leslie's the one who arranged for me to get Yoda!) Her family has a place to stay there. She said flights are cheap and we'll have so much fun. Sounds good to me! I just have to figure out a weekend that works! Lucky me, eh? We will have a GREAT time!

So the birds were good to you till the very end. Awwwwwwww.... they love you.

Are you sure it was squirrels that did "the number" on your evergreens? It's too cold to be squirrels, isn't it? They are hibernating in their nests! When the temp drops below a certain point they just sleep and SLEEP and sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.... ..................

Yes, it was fun playing the organ as you sang along. My playing is NOT very good, Dad... trust me. I'm used to a piano, it's a whole different touch. But you know, that little keyboard is pretty impressive! For your needs, that's enough, isn't it? The only thing I don't like about it is that the keys are so small. I like standard sized keys.

Beef stew from Joanne! Your favorite! Hits the spot on a cold day doesn't it? I can just see you with a piece of bread in your left hand as you eat with your right. I bet those Chinese leftovers are still sitting in your fridge!

I bet you still have a bunch of those old nickel records in the basement! It's great fun to sing along, I do it in the car all the time. Different music, of course, ha ha ha ha...

Have a great day... say hi to Sandy! I wrote her but she's probably not had a chance to read or do anything yet!
Love, Dottie

1/26/07 Big Snow of '67, weird dreams, Mom's wedding dress...

These letters were originally exchanged on January 26, 2007.

Dear Daddio.... sheesh, I got my days messed up! At least I know today is FRIDAY! Woo hoo... I'm ready for it, too.

Nice and sunny day.... but boy, the weird dream I had last night!

I dreamed I was in my wonderful car and we were in the process of buying a new house with a wonderful huge kitchen! (I guess we must have decided not to bother upgrading this house!) I had lots of running around to do, plus was working with a client who was waiting for me at a store to make her purchase. I had the important file that had all the specs and details of our order. I was running behind and tried a short cut, through a freight yard, stupid rail tracks all over the place and lots of ice and snow. Every way I tried turned out to be a dead end or blocked by a train or large truck. I was getting later and later! Then I saw a building, like a garage, open with doors on both sides so you could drive right through! I could see the street on the other side of it, so I went to drive through. Instead, there was a huge water filled hole in there, and my car started sinking nose first through ice and water, but I managed to get just in the nick of time. My important file, my purse, my cell phone, EVERYTHING sank down into the black depths of the icy water. I woke up, grateful to be up and OUT of that horrible dream!

And you talk about YOUR weird dreams? Hah... guess I get them too... wonder where I got that! From YOU~!

Yes, I don't know what to make with all those garbage drums by our neighbor's house. No, I don't think they are Polish! Ha ha ha... but I know they don't have a lot of money.

I remember Mom's dress from pictures. Sheer at the neckline and beautiful lace bodice and sleeves, lace edging. It would be fun to see the real thing.

This morning I have an appointment with a former L Brandy's client, now MY client. We shall see how that goes. She's not easy, but she's always busy so she keeps things short and sweet. She's very nice, but always frazzled. She and her husband build homes in Hinsdale, after tearing down little old homes. They have a few businesses, but that's the one she's involved in. She's my age but she acts and dresses and looks much older for some reason. Or maybe it's just that I don't act my age... h aha ha ha ha....

Have a lovely, sunny day, Daddio.... behave yourself!

Dear Dottie When is a dream not a dream < WHEN YOU WAKE UP ha ha , that was a good one, mine are usually where i am working , or at a factory, then i wonder why I am so tired when i get up ha ha .

Bob broke part of his dentures, the prongs , will have to take them in to be fixed , it never stops , yesterday he knocked the sliding doors off the track , spent an hour fixing it , tore the bracket right off the door. it was so hard to repair because of all the clothes hanging and you have to get inside to fix it , anyway its done.

Joanne called i have some Chicken dumping soup for you, boy am i spoiled , she gave me two meals yesterday, i count my blessings , you count your Calories ha ha .

Anyway it's a raw South west wind blowingm but it's supposed to get warmer . Today , forty years ago was the big snow storm, let see i was Forty six , so young ha ha , working overtime when we got done at nine that night , the five o 'clock Bunch was still trying to get out of the parking lot, My car was snowed in on three sides except the back , forced my self into the car and backed it out on to a bare wind blowen spot , cleaned it off and drove down cicero ave like a drunk , cars stalled all over the place, some how got the car home , parked it across the street from our house and there it sat for a week before we could move it , every one was walking, buses were tied up in traffic , the bus driver would stop at a tavern or a gas station so the people could use the wash rooms , he would wait for them , how about that for service, ah , what Memories.

Anyway it's a bright sunny day , have to get my soup , enjoy the week end pleasant dreams , i want to see you Smile

Love dad

1/27/07 Big Snow of '67, a broken door, bird duty starts...

These letters were originally exchanged on January 27, 2007.

Dear Daddio....

More weird dreams... ack, what is going on! Ha ha... who needs a book or TV when such crazy stories are going on right inside my head!

Bob broke part of his partial? Will that be fixed easily and quickly? How'd he do it? Was it a closet door he broke? I'm trying to think of where you have a sliding door in your house and that's all I can think of!

That Joanne spoils you rotten... awwwwwwww, she's so sweet! Worth the drive in the cold isn't it!

I loved your memories of the snow storm... I have memories of my own, Mom making hot chocolate in big steamy pots, playing outside all day long, not even feeling the cold, building a HUGE igloo over by the tomato patch, helping dig/push someone's car from a block down after a guy in a tow truck told her he could help, for a BIG PRICE. I remember snow being as tall as I was, so tall I could not see over it. I was twelve.

Bird duty starts today, doesn't it... but it won't be a long trip this time. Sandy was cuddling and sitting with Quasar last night, giving him lots of attention. He was fluffed and grinding his beak in bliss, eyes half closed. That IS bird heaven.

Yoda loves Steve... she never ever bites him and always goes right on his hand. Not so with me... ha ha ha. Oh well... that's a bird for you. She does love men, that little FLIRT!

We saw that movie... "Pursuit of HAPPYNESS" with Will Smith, based upon a true story about a guy who was living almost on the street with his little boy, while working a job AND doing an internship with Dean Witter, down to his last dollar, no where to live. It shows how he turned his life around and went on to be a HUGE success... a really good story, enjoyable movie.

I have tai chi in a little bit... hope you have a good day! I've lots to get done around here... looking forward. Give Quasar a neck fluffing for me, and sing for Paco for me....
Love, Dottie

------
dear Dottie just got home from Jewel, Boy that place is packed , every one stocking up before the cold weather comes in , Sandy is playing it Smart she is going South ha ha , She stopped by last night with what to do and who to contact, I don't think her heart is in going this time, just to much doing at the office and her other stuff , But doing some thing different will take her mind off of her work , It's me that will have to take care of those birds ha ha .

Bob off to work on his own this morning , I hate his new working hours and days off , just cant Adjust to them, but in a way at least heis going to work while its light out .One of the clips that hold the partial broke off not the denture, it will have to sent out to get fixed. It was Bob/s closet sliding door that went off the track and he kept forcing it till the bracket came off , Had to work on the inside of the closet with the doors closed , HMMMMM wonder where dad is ha ha .But its fixed .

Yes that storm , plus Sues article made all the memories come back , did you read about the fellow who went out to walk his dogs and lost his memory , he wandered around for 25 days till some one found him , he had no recollection what he did all those days , the dogs found their way home , strange things happen when you least expext the too. It's alway great one can recall and get back to what his life was before , even his wife gave him up for lost .

Anyway it's saturday , Sandy leaves and i take over ha ha , will teach the birds CLEAN THE HOUSE < CLEAN THE HOUSE ha ha

keep smiling Love Dad stay warm

1/28/07 Soap and water, Quasar on the phone, Sandy in Panama,

Dear Daddio.... so how are the birds treating you thus far? Is Q up to his old tricks? I am SURE that Paco just flapped, quivered and made all kinds of happy sounds when you sang to him! Sandy won't be gone too long, but it's one more thing for you to fit into your busy day.

Steve and I went to see a movie called "Holiday" last night. (That's right TWO movies in one weekend!) Right now all the hits that came out at Christmas are at the cheap second-run theaters, and it's a great time to catch some great movies with the big screen and amazing sound, reasonably. We had a Korean dinner before that. Steve wasn't as adventurous this time.... he played it safe with a Chinese dish on the menu, beef with broccoli. He needs a haircut badly, too... thank goodness he wears a hat to plaster down his unruly mop! But we had a nice time.

We stopped at a "Bargain Books" place next to the theater because we got there early. It's my turn to pick the book club book for our March reading. It's so hard to do because they all have read EVERYTHING! I mean it Dad... some of them read almost a book a day! How they do it working full time and raising kids is beyond me. So I found a book there that MIGHT work. Maybe they'll hate it. I don't know. We'll see.

You stay on top of those minor household repairs. I have such a list for Steve and he takes his sweet time. The light in my microwave/hood is burned out again. He leaves that light on all the time because it's a nice subtle light. But it burns out! And... it's a special bulb! I think I'm going to nag him about it today... tee hee.... poor man. But I'll only pick the top two things and nag only about those.... "Haircut today and light bulb today, PLEASE?" I'm nice when I nag... ha ha ha ha ha... I always say please and thank you.

Steve never seems to see when he needs his nails clipped, his hair cut, his eyebrows trimmed, or a shirt thrown in the wash. It can have spilled soup on it and he'll keep wearing it! Why? He sniffs things before he puts them on... but he sniffs whatever part his hand grabs... what if it's the part that doesn't get smelly? If he is going to use the sniff test, he should sniff the armpit, right? Ugh... men!!! The thing I hate about being married is that he would walk around dragging his knuckles like a cave man, saying UG and grunting, getting more and more wild by the day (and smelly) if I did not NAG! Why should I have to tell him? WHY? Doesn't he care how he looks? I guess not. His desk is always neat at a pin, why can't HE be? Ha ha ha ha ha....

You're always neat and clean... Mom must have gotten you "pre-trained" or done a better job than I've done, ha ha ah ah aha...

Hope to see you sometime while you're on bird duty! Have a good day and give Quasar a big juicy kiss for me, and sing Paco a sweet song for me....
Love, Dottie
--------
dear Dottie Sunday , a day of rest ha ha , not for me , went to church this morning and on to the cemetary, it was bitter cold out , that wind cuts right through you , Bob walked to church but had the heavy jacket , no Dolores today .

i was happy about that , anyway went to take care of the birds , They gave me the usual song and dance but I fed them anyway , they must of been hungry , no problem , they went in the cage by them selves , oh happy day .

Sandy called while i was there , getting ready to get on the plane for Panama , they are one hour ahead of us , She had called last night while i was talking to Joanne and had to cut her off, felt sorry about that , Joanne talked about five more minutes and said i have to get to bed got an early start tomorrow , That was 7 pm by her , should of just talked to Sandy in the first place . you can't win .will have to go back later to check on the birds , parking is a problem because of the church, may have to use her one half parking spot ha ha .

I put the phone by Quasar while sandy was talking and he got all quivery with his head Cocked, , will have to teach that bird how to use the phone ha ha .

Why do you need a light INSIDE the Micro oven , I never even gave it a thought , I put the dish in and the time on and thats it , your to Fussy, beside no light , you done have to clean what you can't see ha ha .

By the way I thought You give him his haircuts or did you throw out those Bowls that you used ha ha ha ha ha ha . Some how I discovered water at an early age so I mixed it with Soap and come up CLEAN , so there, I did it all by my self no Mom did not Pre train me .

Anyway got my act together , tomorrow , the Center , Bob to work , Feed the birds just for starters Boy am I glad I am Retired ha ha Keep smiling , go see a movie , I watched Titanic on TV last night < Three Hours , enjoyed it even while talking to Joanne

Ha ha take care love dad

1/29/07 P's and Q's, Bob's teeth, barbers...

These letters were orignally exchanged on January 29, 2007.

Dear Daddio.... so the birdies gave you the usual song and dance, eh? Well! Ha ha ha... they'll probably do it again today! I'm so glad you let them out of the cage... you can see how much they love that. It breaks my heart to think of Yoda constantly IN the cage before I got her. She loves being out of the cage, is so happy.... she moves to the part of the cage closest to where we are.

You're lucky you have your way of getting them back in the cage. If you're firm with Paco, he'll come up on your hand. He might do his little growl sound first, but that's ok, he'll listen. He almost never bites.

I bet Quasar knew it was Sandy on the line. I bet he knew. He's so smart.

As for the micro hood light.... no Dad, you misunderstood. I did not explain it right. It's UNDER the microwave and lights the stove. It's like under cabinet lighting... low, medium, high. We got rid of the old range hood and Ziggy installed a microwave hood that his client was getting rid of. It was white and didn't quite match, but we took it because it freed up a LOT of counter space.

Yesterday he did put in my new light, but did NOT get a hair cut. What are you going to do? NAG! Ha ha ha...

He goes to this place called "Sport Clips" now for his haircut. They have sport TV games on the entire time, sets everywhere you see. They have massages available for the men too. Mostly pretty young girls cut hair there. Augie goes there too. It caters to men, obviously. Wouldn't you think Steve would hurry up and go there as soon as he needed another haircut? No, ha ha ha... see how hopeless he is?

I'm off to Arlington today on a fabric mission. Long day ahead. Have a great day, good luck with Q and P! Hey.... just thought of something.... "Mind your P's and Q's!" Ha ha ha... ever hear that saying? What does it mean anyway? Ha ha have a good one.
Love, Dottie
---------
dear Dottie Mine your P's and Q's ha ha , haven't heard that one in a long time < i think back in my school days , don't ask what it means Will have to ask some of my OLD school teacher friends ha ha .

Busy Morning, went to center set up for the day , hurry home so i can take Bob to work and while there got some shopping done, back home and off to feed the birds. Qusar sits on my shoulder all the while i am preparing their food , I get home and i am all itchy from those birds , just what i need , Did up some hot dogs for Bob, cleaned up and took a nap , Will have some lunch , pick up Bob , call on his Dentures and go Back and check up on the birds, Get home and start washing Clothes, what's wrong with this picture , I am supposed to be relaxed , read the paper and watch TV , after all I'm OLd and retired , ha ha , some where i missed the boat.

Yes Bob used to go to those places for his hair cuts, they would trim around his ears and he would come home like he didn't even get a hair cut , now he goes to a real Barber who gives him a nice hair cut and it's just around the corner from Jewel , so there .By the way Sport Clips always have Coupons in the paper or check out at the stores., anyway enjoy the snow and your long trip , it's that raw wind that gets you , even Bob didn't give me a hard time when i said i would take him to work ha ha

keep smiling Love Dad , watch your P's And Q's Ha ha

1/30/07 Minding your P's and Q's, another day with birds, men's hair cuts...

These letters were originally exchanged on Januray 30, 2007.

Dear Daddio.... Why isn't it called TWOs day? It's the second day of the week, makes sense doesn't it?

I looked up "mind your P's and Q's" online since you didn't know either what it meant... here's what I found!

* Advice to a child learning its letters to be careful not to mix up
the handwritten lower-case letters p and q.

* Similar advice to a printer’s apprentice, for whom the backward-facing

metal type letters would be especially confusing.

* Advice to a barman not to confuse the
letters p and q on the tally slate, on which the letters stood for the pints and quarts consumed.

* An abbreviation of mind your please’s and thank-you’s.

* Instructions from a French dancing master to be sure to perform the dance

figures pieds and queues accurately.

* An admonishment to seamen not to soil their navy pea-jackets with their

tarred queues, that is, their pigtails.

Isn't that interesting? So you can pick which one you want to believe! Ha ha ha... sorry to make your poor brain work so hard today...

Did you get Sandy's email? It's exciting that she's able to write us from Panama and we get it within minutes. Isn't technology amazing? Monica still sends old fashioned postcards... bless her heart, I love to get them!

Quasar is a nosy bird... or should I say "beaky" bird, ha ha ha... sitting on your shoulder watching everything you do. He loves it. He does that with Sandy I'm sure.

How'd Bob's newly fixed prongs work? Is he able to chomp again? I hope so! Gotta take care of the choppers... otherwise he'll find himself on a "milk only" diet! NO BEEF? Egads.. poor Bob... ha ha ha...

I don't think you'll ever be "retired" from life, Daddio.... the only way you're going to find time for yourself is to schedule it on the calendar and protect that time like a lion protecting his cubs.

Steve has to tell them at Sport Clips to cut it shorter than they want to. Most guys go in every four or five weeks and only need a tiny trim... but not Steve, he needs major pruning with hedge clippers, if you ask me. Those wirey silver wild crazy hairs of his go every which way and heaven help the poor girl who gets him. He is thinner on top now, but still... what hair. After a cut the stray hairs are like needles if you happen to get one on you... ouch, and itchy too! I make him change his clothes when he comes home, and wash his hair that same day. "But they just washed it." Too bad.... it's like a porcupine lost a few quills. You do NOT want to encounter one of the strays, believe me.

Aren't I a horrible wife? Why he loves me like he does boggles my mind. I don't deserve him, I really don't. The more of a devil I become the more he loves me... it's madness. He brings out the worst in me, he does. Men!!!

The water heater is being installed today.... "some time before 1:00"... yikes, have to wait around all day not knowing when they are coming.

It's just as well, I can't find my car keys! I hope Steve has them... I have no idea where they can be. And that expensive keyless entry thingee is big bucks if I lose it... they better turn up. How about a few prayers to St. Francis for your poor scatter-brained daughter?

Hope the birds were good to you.... off to work I go, about four feet to my heaped desk. SO BEHIND I am! Better get to it. Have a good one! Mind your P's and Q's... ha ha ha...
Love, Dottie

--------
Dear Dottie Boy you really tossed the book at me with all those P's and Q's , it's wonderful that that info is right there at your Finger tips. who needs brains , just punch in what you want to know ha ha ,

Busy Morning , garbage day and then snow , not much but enough to shovel , got that out of the way and the the Birds , Sandy come back all is forgiven , That Quasar sits on my shoulder the whole time and now i'm itchy all over, gave him that Golden Crunch bread that he likes , he tears that up in seconds , both birds love that Bread but Paco eats his so gently not Quasar , one two three and its in shreads ha ha , stopped at Freshline they had more of that bread so we are in luck , it hard to find and it's cheaper at freshline so we lucked out .

No i have to take Bob to have an Impression of his dentures made first before they can repair them , big Bucks . going there at 3pm .I',m tell ing you if I get through this week i'll have it made , top of it all my Faucet on the kitchen sink come loose, don't know if i will have to replace it . thats laying under the sink and working on something you can't see , life is never boring ha ha.

Let steve find a regular Barber , you can tell the difference right a way , girls don't know how to do mens hair .YES I got an Email from Sandy but have not read it , two more days , two more days ha ha .Anyway Steve has his hair cut , the light is in , be happy give him a smile thats two jobs done

keep smiling Love dad

1/31/07 Clunker, bird treats, Sandy's hot water tank....

(These letters were exchanged on January 31st, 2007)

Hey Daddio... bird duty is almost over! I know how you dread seeing it come to an end.... how long does the itching last? Maybe I should make you a padded vest so Q's nails can't dig through? They are sharp. Steve can't stand Yoda's nails and doesn't want her touching his skin. He pulls his sleeve down over his hand so she has a layer of fabric to stand on. When I put her on his leg (when he's on his chair feet up on the ottoman) he HATES that... sharp nails. Maybe that's what makes it itch.

I haven't heard of this "Golden Crunch" bread... but it's nice they both enjoy it. Yes, Q does get vigorous and aggressive with things, when he plays, when he shreds. Yes, he loves it. He's a very physical bird. Paco is much more low key, doesn't do much in the way of athletic stunts, swinging, swirling or ripping things apart. Nothing makes Paco happier than attention.

I'm going to call you today to see if we can possibly hook up.

Steve still has his long bushy hair. He doesn't care where he goes, but he does get a more stylish (modern, updated) haircut when he goes to Sport Clips. Ha ha, once he went to a place and there was a cute black girl giving haircuts. She was really nice and he liked her, but when he came home I laughed my butt off... she gave him a hair cut with a flat long top and shaved sides just like Arsenio Hall!! (A black hair style, ha ah ha) He didn't care. He doesn't tell them what to do, just lets them do what they want.

So I better get going... talk to you soon!
Love, Dottie

-------
Dear Dottie It's 4 above this morning , cold , the old clunker started , oh happy day , went to the center and then to feed the birds , only one more day , only one more day , Sandy sent an email Coming home late Thursday, after that hot weather down there she is going to get a surprise cause this cold weather is staying atleast till Sunday brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I think the bread is called oven baked , comes in different choices , but the golden Crunch is the one the birds like ., if you watched Quasar Crunch that bread, he just tears it to pieces ha ha . Yes Quasar sat on my shoilder while i was getting their food , left me a little deposite to remember him by , Birds and cats are not for me ha ha .

i don't think today is a good day for going out, just to cold , enjoy the nice warm house .Did you get your hot water tank in , the hot water is off by Sandy's condo , hope they get it repaired before she comes home ,.So stay warm ,, one month gone < taxes for the house came in yesterday , they just want to get you hot before it's cold <

keep smiling Love Dad

2/1/07 Yesterday's visit, laughs, jokes...

Dear Daddy... it's never too cold to LAUGH, is it? Ha ha ha, we had FUN yesterday. Even though you started in on me right away, about my beautiful stylish coat, we had a good time. I'll be wearing that coat out again today on my design runs. Hopefully no one else will think there's a dead animal around my neck or that I'm wearing someone's couch leftovers.

Chi Tung was good as always. They have such fresh, crisp vegetables, and plenty of them. How they can sell so cheaply is beyond me. I mean, our bill was not even $11, for two people, in a nice booth with nice dishes and fresh flowers, two bus boys at our service and an attentive waiter. Come on. What was the profit on our meals? $2-3? How many come through there for lunch on average? Seems like there would be about 250 to 300 sitting there at any given time. If they turn the tables over every hour, for three hours, that's about $3000 profit.

See how my mind works? I think it comes from being in business.

Just like figuring it costs you $6-700 a month to live in that house, plus food, clothing (ha) and expenses.

We had fun at the old Hammond organ, didn't we? That one song book is a good one. You sure have a memory for the old songs, Dad. It shows me that music has always been a part of your life. You don't seem to listen to music anymore much. Maybe you should!

Your last day of bird duty... awwwwwww, boo hooey on you-ey. You can always visit them.

Did Sandy's hot water get turned back on? Hope so! Today's the day of her return!

Just behave yourself today, keep warm. I'm glad that old clunker keeps starting for you... faithful, reliable old heap, will be hard to part with it. Eventually the time will come.

Have a great day! I'll be running around... a VERY busy day today. Keep the bed buddy close by!
Love, Dottie

-----
Dear Dottie Boy you were in Rare form yesterday , One story after another , what a line you have , must take after your father ha ha , Bob got a ride again to work , he remined me that this sunday is Mom's birthday , she would have been 80, i bet she would be delighted how well all the grand children are doing , There is a lot of families who have one problem after another <>

Got a little snow last night, had to shovel, just push the stuff aside , so the sun could dry up the side walk, Boy those squirels really did a number under those evergreens in front , Branches all over the place and they are frozen to the side walk , wonder if something got up there and tore their nest apart ,

Well Sandy will be coming home today Two hours to Miami and three hours to chicago , should get to Ohare at 9.20 and get home about 11pm , bet she will be worn out . and Cold ha ha The birds did not give me any problems, will clean there cages this afternoon, hope fully the last time , The hot Water problem is supposed to be worked on today , thats all sandy needs is a cold shower brrrrrrrrr.

Thank you going coming that extra mile to share with Me, it was fun time for both of us , and never heard that organ sound so good and so bad ha ha , wish i had your talent , yes music has been part of my life , I remember going to the second hand store and buying old records for a nickel , putting them on the old wind up victrola and sing along , you know what , i still sing some of those old songs , but that is strickly off the record ha ha keep smiling , going to the office to pick up some Beef stew from Joanne , see life can be beautiful , enjoy your day

love dad and thank you for sharing it with me .
